The start of a new year often brings fresh opportunities and new routines. For dancers eager to sharpen their skills or take their first steps on the dance floor, January 2026 offers a revamped class schedule designed to make learning more focused and enjoyable.
We are making some important adjustments to our weekly classes, including pausing Tuesday sessions in Lisburn and combining beginner classes to create a more streamlined experience. This post will guide you through the changes and introduce our new six-week beginners Ballroom course kicking off in early January.

What’s Changing in January 2026
To better serve our dance community, we are pausing both the Kids and Adult Tuesday classes in Lisburn for the moment.
This pause will allow us to concentrate our efforts and resources on delivering a high-quality experience at Knockbreda. Instead of having separate beginner classes on Tuesdays and Fridays, we are combining these into a single beginners class every Friday evening. This change means dancers can focus their energy on one consistent session each week, making it easier to build momentum and progress steadily.
We will look to revisit the kids classes in the Springtime and we will keep you posted on our plans.
New Weekly Schedule at Knockbreda Parish Church Hall:
Beginners Ballroom Course
Starting Friday, 2nd January 2026
7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
A six-week course designed for those new to ballroom dancing or anyone looking to refresh their basics.
Open Practice Session
Every Friday after the beginners class
8:45 pm to 10:15 pm
An informal session where dancers of all levels can practice moves, socialize, and gain confidence on the floor.
This new schedule provides a clear structure: learn the fundamentals during the beginners course, then immediately apply what you’ve learned during open practice. This combination supports faster improvement and a more enjoyable learning experience.
The decision to pause Tuesday classes in Lisburn and merge beginner sessions was on observations of attendance patterns. By focusing on Fridays at Knockbreda, we can offer:
Better class continuity
With one dedicated beginners class per week, instructors can build lessons progressively without repeating content across multiple days.
Improved learning environment
Concentrating beginner dancers in one session creates a supportive group atmosphere where participants can bond and encourage each other.
More efficient use of resources
Focusing on one location and day allows us to enhance the quality of instruction and practice facilities.
For dancers who previously attended Tuesday classes in Lisburn, this change may require some adjustment. We encourage you to join us on Fridays at Knockbreda, where you will find a welcoming community and excellent teaching.
What to Expect from the Six-Week Beginners Ballroom Course
Our new beginners course is designed to introduce the essential steps, techniques, and rhythms of ballroom dancing in a friendly and supportive setting. Over six weeks, you will learn:
Basic footwork and posture for popular ballroom styles such as the Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quickstep.
How to lead and follow with confidence.
Simple routines that combine steps into smooth sequences.
Tips on musicality and timing to help you dance in sync with the music.
Each session builds on the previous one, so by the end of the course, you will be able to dance a short routine with a partner. The course is suitable for absolute beginners and those who want to refresh their skills after a break.
Benefits of Joining the Beginners Course
Structured learning
The six-week format provides clear goals and steady progress.
Small class sizes
Personalized attention helps you improve faster.
Immediate practice opportunities
The open practice session right after class lets you apply new skills while they are fresh.
Social connections
Meeting other beginners creates a fun and encouraging atmosphere.
How to Prepare for the New Classes
To get the most out of the beginners course and open practice, consider these tips:
Wear comfortable shoes with smooth soles suitable for dancing. Avoid trainers with thick treads.
Dress in layers so you can adjust to the room temperature as you warm up.
Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during sessions.
Come with an open mind and readiness to have fun. Dancing is as much about enjoyment as it is about technique.
Staying Connected and Informed

If you have questions about the new schedule or the beginners course, please reach out to us directly. We want to make sure every dancer feels supported and excited about their journey.
Final Thoughts
The changes to our January 2026 dance class schedule reflect our commitment to providing a focused, welcoming, and effective learning environment. By pausing Tuesday classes in Lisburn and combining beginner sessions into a single Friday night course at Knockbreda, we aim to help dancers build skills more consistently and enjoyably. The six-week beginners Ballroom course starting on 2nd January offers a perfect opportunity to start or renew your dance journey with expert guidance and supportive practice.
